Academic Recognition Programs


NCS places an importance on student recognition, both behavioral and academic. Children are recognized in the following ways:

End of Year Awards and Blessings

At the end of each school year students are recognized by their teachers for awards such as Honor Roll, work habits, citizenship, attendance, enrichment, Bible Memory, etc. Each child also receives a “blessing” from his or her teacher.

Citizenship Accolades

Various children are recognized by their teachers during weekly Chapel services for Christ-like behavior toward others.

Duke TIP (Talent Identification Program)

Students in grades 4 and 5 who score in the 95th percentile or higher on certain major subtests of the Terranova are recognized as qualifying for the Duke TIP program. Students who choose to register for the program are given the opportunity to participate in higher-level testing and other activities.

Johns Hopkins CTY (Center for Talented Youth)

Students in grades 2-5 who score in the 95th percentile or higher on certain major subtests of the Terranova are recognized as qualifying for the Johns Hopkins CTY program. Students who choose to register for the program are given the opportunity to participate in higher-level testing and other activities.

Summer Institute for the Gifted (SIG)

Students in grades 1-5 who score in the 95th percentile or higher on certain major subtests of the Terranova are recognized as qualifying for the SIG program. Students who qualify have the opportunity to participate in gifted and talented summer camps at prestigious universities. Additional fees apply for camps.
