Orchestra

Students in grades 3-5 have the option of participating in a stringed orchestra class in lieu of vocal music. Students may choose the violin, viola, cello or bass. Instruction is based on the Suzuki Method, which is drawn from the belief that children have the ability to become proficient on a stringed instrument at a young age. Students learn the basic foundations of music theory and how to read music.  Studies show that playing a stringed instrument is linked to higher achievement scores in math and better multitasking skills. Students may continue their orchestra experience at NCS through the 12th grade. Two concerts are performed each year.
