1 Semester
This course serves as an introduction to the performing arts and introduces students to various elements of theatre and performance. In this class, students will get to practice many aspects of theatre and performance. They will look at the basic terms of theatre and put them into practice. Drama students will learn basic movement, acting, production skills, costuming, theatre make-up, video production, editing on iMovie, and explore the backstage opportunities in theatre and the performing arts. Everyone in the class will participate in some way in the class production at the end of the semester.
1 Semester
Northland stages a full scale, Broadway musical each year, open to all high school students (and sometimes middle and elementary students, depending on the show). The entire Fine Arts Department works together to stage these major productions, with students being able to perform in the show, work backstage, run the lighting and sound, work on costumes, makeup and props, as well as build and paint the sets. Students are also involved in taking the headshot pictures for the program.
Students have the opportunity to be evaluated by local theatre professionals and receive college scholarships by the school’s participation in the Tommy Tunes Awards.
