Making music not only nourishes the soul but also strengthens the mind. Studies show that learning a string instrument enhances brain development and boosts spatial-temporal reasoning—skills that are foundational for success in math and science.
At Northland, students may begin their orchestra journey as early as 3rd Grade and continue all the way through 12th Grade. Our program is designed to grow with each student, building both musical skill and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
Elementary Orchestra (Grades 3–5)
Students begin learning by rote in a group setting, developing precise ear training from the beginning. By second semester of 3rd grade, they are learning basic music theory and how to read music. This sets a strong musical foundation, which continues to build in elementary.
Middle School Orchestra (Grades 6–8)
As students’ progress into middle school, the focus shifts to more complex technique and higher-level theory. Music selections increase in difficulty, and students refine their performance and collaboration skills.
High School Orchestra (Grades 9–12)
High school orchestra students are well-versed in music theory and continue advancing their individual and ensemble skills. Opportunities abound for performance and growth:
Our goal is to inspire excellence while fostering creativity, discipline, and joy in every student musician.
